2007 Season Summary

This year saw an increase of West Nile Virus (WNV) cases across all surveillance areas. We also saw higher populations of mosquitoes, with the Culex species showing up sooner in the season and in higher numbers. Due to the tremendous increase in mosquito numbers, we added another field worker and increased abatement activities mid-season. We provided larvacide services to the College-Young MAD under a cooperative agreement, and we coordinated even more closely with Logan City. A grant from UDAF assisted us in obtaining additional chemical, equipment, and a GIS/GPS system.

 

A detailed annual report has been sent to all communities within the District and to the county executive. In addition, each trustee has the report. Following is a brief summary of the abatement activities and a chart showing the weekly mosquito counts.

Fiscal year 2007 was the first budget increase since CMAD was incorporated in 2004. The budget in 2006 increased due to the annexations of two communities plus fees in lieu of taxes (the first year CMAD received these).
